Chapter 72

“Tomorrow morning, I should think,” Dr. Previn said.

“What about this?” Mom said, indicating her wrist.

“They’ll change the dressings on your wrist this evening and again in the morning—I want to see you in my office the next day. Just be glad that your cardiologist used the new radial artery procedure—if he’d used the femoral artery, you’d be in a wheelchair for a day or two, as it’s much more invasive.”

“Thank you, Max,” she said.

“Yeah, thanks,” Dad said.

The doctor left, and we sat and talked with Mom for a while. Eventually it became obvious that she was getting tired, so I said, “Dad, I think we need to go home so Mom can get some rest. We can come back this evening after dinner.”

“Thank you, David,” Mom said. “I really would like to take a little nap, if you don’t mind. Russell, why don’t you guys go to Barnes & Noble and see if you can find a couple of heart-healthy cookbooks?”

“We can do that,” Dad said.
