“I thought you might be a runner,” the doctor said. “You have that look about you, as well as the body for it. Anyhow, you should be up and about in a few days and pretty much back to normal in two or three weeks. Just take it slow and easy. If you overdo things, you’ll set yourself back a week or two.”
The doctor excused himself to leave, and I followed him from the room. In the hall, I said, “Doc, will he be able to travel by next week?”
“Travel how and where?”
“I was thinking of driving him up to Maggie Valley for a week of relaxation, sort of as a surprise.”
“That’s what, about an eight-hour drive?”
“Just about, and it’s smooth interstate travel all the way. The passenger seat in my car reclines almost completely. Also, if we’re away from home, it will be a lot easier to ride herd on him.”
“Ride herd?”
“He has a tendency to overdo almost everything.”
“Typical runner. In that case, I don’t see why not. Go for it.”
