“Oh my God,” Mike said. “This is perfect… let’s buy it.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Not even close, babe. I have to have this place. Correction, we have to have this place. It has ‘us’ written all over it.”
“I like it too, but can we afford it? We haven’t talked much about our respective finances.”
“Babe. You’ve seen that little house my office is in.”
“Sure.”
“I own it free and clear.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“Why should you? I don’t talk about money very much. I also have a fair amount of equity in the two rental houses I own.”
“I’m impressed.”
“How much equity do you have in your house?”
I thought a minute. “At a guess, a hundred thousand.”
“Do you own the vacant lot free and clear?”
“Actually, I do, and don’t forget my parents’ house.”
“I did forget that. They left it to you free and clear, didn’t they?”
