Chapter 99

“We’ll leave the computer up 24/7, and every morning at four, the software will back up everything on the hard drive.”

“And if the hard drive in the desktop machine crashes?”

“We buy a new machine or a new hard drive as needed, and once it’s up and running, we plug the external drive in and copy the files over to the new machine using software known as ‘ghost’ software.”

“Sounds simple.”

“It usually is, as long as nothing goes wrong.”

We got an early start on Monday and were out of the Y by seven, which meant that I was at my desk half an hour later. Captain Bridges came to my office around ten.

“What’s up, boss?” I said.

“We’re wanted upstairs,” he said.

“Do you know why?”

“The local head FING is here, and he isn’t happy.”

We went to the elevator and took it to the top. When we entered the sheriff’s office, the first thing I noticed was Craig Thomas, the local SAC, and he looked anything but happy.

The sheriff said, “Morning, Henry, morning, George. Take a seat.”
