“What do you have, Sergeant?” I said.

“One very credible description, one so-so description, and a partial tag number on the getaway car. An APB has already gone out for the car.”

“Do either of the witnesses require a trip to the ER?”

“The EMTs say not.”

“As soon as they’re patched up, have a patrol car take them downtown, and summon our sketch artist. One of our guys should also be there to take a formal statement. If they can get a sketch released in time for the eleven o’clock news, it would be great.”

“Will do.”

“Has the owner of the store shown up?”

“He’s on his way.”

“What have you got our team doing at the moment?”

She told me, and I said, “In that case, I’ll leave it in your capable hands.”

When I got home, Mike was in the den using the gear he’d brought from his office. Thor was curled up on the floor almost under Mike’s chair.

“How’s it going?”

“Done in ten.”

“Want anything to drink?”

“Wine.”
