On our next trip to Conti, we learned that the elusive SignorPiedmont Winery had been arrested in Rome, where he was now languishing in jail awaiting trial. A mountain of evidence had been accumulated, and the authorities were now convinced that he and/or his unsavory associates were responsible for the destruction of the Lear.

“Well,” I said, when Luciano told me the news, “that’s one loose end tied up.”

“Yeah, all we need now is to track down your uncle’s blackmailer.”

“The investigators are working on it.”

“What will you do when you find him or her?” Luciano said.

“I’m going to leave that up to the lawyers to handle.”

“That’s a good idea.”

“Speaking of SignorPiedmont winery, are we ready to file suit against the old auditing firm?”
