“Why are we leaving?” Nate said. “I thought you were going to call.”

“I am, but not in the presence of the attendant.”

Quentin put his cell phone on speaker and pushed a speed dial button. It took a while, but someone finally answered at the other end.

“Hello.”

“Good morning, Mr. Rinker, this is Quentin Quasar.”

“It’s three in the morning, why are you calling me at this hour?”

“Because we’re at your station in Green Cove Springs, and there’s only one attendant on duty.”

“Shit! Is it a man or a woman?”

“It’s a young guy.”

“That bitch.”

“Excuse me?” Quentin said.

“She’s the other attendant. She did this once before, and promised she’d never do it again, and I believed her. Where are you?”

“My partner and I are standing beside our car at one of the pumps.”

“Can you hang around for thirty minutes, until I can get someone there?
