Chapter 43

I wonder where he’s going now,Quentin thought. He’d left his laptop open on the passenger seat, so he took it out of slumber mode, and watched the progress of his target’s car. He was so engrossed in what he was doing that he jumped with a start when he heard a tap on the window of the car. He was even more surprised, when he looked around and saw a policeman standing beside the Mustang. Damn, I’m getting careless—I didn’t even hear a car drive up.

Quentin rolled the window down. “Can I help you, officer?”

“Someone reported a suspicious looking car in the neighborhood. I need to see some ID, Sir.”

“Yes, Sir, officer,” Quentin said. “He produced his driver’s license and paperwork identifying him as a licensed investigator.

The officer looked the items over, then handed them back to Quentin. “May I ask what you’re doing in the neighborhood, Sir?”

“Can you see the laptop on the passenger seat, officer?”

“Yes, Sir.”
