Chapter 16

“The bitch on two, boss,” Marjorie said.

“Thanks. Why don’t you stay on the line? I may need a witness.”

“Recorder?”

“Yeah, that too.”

I punched the button to change lines. “Hello.”

“You bastard.”

“Nice to hear from you, Rosalie.”

“You didn’t come home last night.”

“So?”

“I looked up your deed in the courthouse and got the address.”

“So?”

“You didn’t come home last night.”

“Rosalie, you’re beginning to sound like a broken record. So?”

“So, what do you have to say for yourself?”

“Simply this. Rosalie, we do nothave a relationship of any kind. If you persist in stalking me, I’ll petition the court for a restraining order preventing you from coming within a thousand yards of anywhere I am. Do you understand me?”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Believe it, and I have a witness to what I’ve just told you.”

“Witness?”

“Yes,” Marjorie said, “he has a witness. I suggest you pay attention to what he said.”
