“If you two gentlemen will excuse me, I’m
going to take my leave of you for now. My wife is waiting for me
upstairs, and we are both a little exhausted from the festivities
this evening. Mr. Blue, enjoy your meal. You’ll find that my son
can be quite charming. I’ll leave you to let him be. I’m sure we’ll
meet again.”
Mine looked up at him with a mouth full of
food and smiled. He started to extend his hand with the fork in it,
but Raferty said, “No worries. Another time.”
Mine smiled wider, and nodded.
“As for you my son,” Raferty said, looking
at Seamus. “I always enjoy your last minute surprises. Will I see
you in the morning?”
Seamus looked at him and shrugged, a
half-smile forming on his mouth.
“Well, then. Wake me if you decide to go
anywhere,” Raferty said, and kissed Seamus on the head.
Seamus nodded. Raferty walked to the stairs
and then stopped, looking back at his son. Seamus smiled. “I’m
