Chapter 52

Spike squeaked and bounced to Quinn. “The little boy, please?” He turned to smile at Paul. “Isn’t it—Paul, what’s wrong?”

Tears streaked Paul’s cheeks. He sniffled and reached for the girl doll. “I’ve held so many babies. I didn’t stop to think about us having one of our own.”

Spike went to him and wrapped him in his arms. “We can start a family whenever you want. If that’s what you want…”

They held each other, the dolls caught between them.

Quinn watched them with a wistful expression on his face. Quinn as a dad…

Cisco and Cara Mia brought Sunday over for Quinn’s uncles to watch while Cisco took his wife to see her OB, and Sunday fell in love with the doll I’d brought her.

“This is from Uncle Quinn too.”

Cara Mia got misty. “Thank you.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“You’re a good man, Vincent,” Cisco said.

“Don’t let it get around.” I repeated my words from the day before.

So yeah, the morning was a good one.
