Chapter 10

They walked a loop at the crossroads and began the trek back to the farm.

“It was never easy for me and Maxim either, you know. Not in the beginning. Now we read each other much better, but it’s still difficult sometimes. We’re proud guys,” Mikael spoke as they made their way through the snow. “For the last few months, I’ve tried to get him to contact his sister in Russia. She doesn’t even know he’s alive. But he says he doesn’t want to, because she might be happy with her fiancé and getting over the loss of their parents and him, too, so why dig up the old stuff.”

“He doesn’t think she’d just be happy to hear from him?” Rider raised a brow. He tried to see the way Maxim’s mind worked, but not knowing the guy didn’t help.
