Julia looked up.Keith watched her,his expression giving nothing away.


“You asked about a baby.I never said anything about a baby.The only other person who knows is Mom.”


“You told me,in a way.I found something in your trash can.”


“Of course not.But when the only thing in your trash can is a pregnancy test and,as far as I know,I’m the only one you’ve been with lately,I’ve got to know.”


“You’re the only one.”Julia closed her eyes.“I wanted to tell you when I first found out,but I didn’t know how.”


“You were in shock.I get that.”Keith stroked her cheek,tucking her hair behind her ear.“It was a one-off thing and we weren’t careful,so it’s going to be a major adjustment on both sides.”


Julia braced herself.She found herself staring at the buttons on Keith’s tunic.
