Chapter 4

Clearly, Rhea had recovered from the fright I’d given her at the river on my first full day at the academy. There was no hint of fear in her eyes now. She probably thought she was safe, surrounded by all the other students in the hall with her little bots behind her.

Even I found myself hoping that she was. The last thing I wanted was to go and cause a scene in front of the whole student body as I had at the full moon ritual where my marks had expanded across my back, glowing for all to see.

“As you might expect, after finding your roommate dead.” I glared back at her, determined to show her that I wasn’t scared of her even if my friends were.

“Didn’t I warn you to stay away from him?” Rhea asked, tapping a purple-painted fingernail against her overly pouty lips.

She glanced over her shoulder at dumb and dumber, and they nodded as if they thought their agreement would please her.
