Chapter 18

“I take it from your washing windows that you work here?” He asked, his brow rising as though he was only mildly curious.

I glanced at the bucket and the hopelessly soaked lower half of my borrowed jeans and shrugged. “Yeah, I guess you could say that.”

“You must be new around here.” He mused, rubbing his chin as he continued to examine me closely. If felt as though his eyes were literally connecting with my skin, sending tingles all over my body. “I haven’t seen your face around here before.”

Alarm bells began to ding in the back of my head, and I had to struggle not to take a step back.

“London’s a big place.” I shrugged.

“Yeah but this part of London is pretty close-knit.” He returned my shrug. “So I’m going to guess you’re from out of town.”

“Yes, umm...yeah. I’m just visiting family.” I grabbed the lie and held onto it like my life depended on it.

“Ahh, so you’re another Sage cousin?” His eyebrow twitched again, and the alarm bells grew louder.
