“He won’t,” I said firmly. “I won’t allow him to.”

Archer looked at me, his eyes bulging with the effort it was taking to push his whole weight up against the door. “No offense but if I can’t stand the thought of coming face to face with him, then you don’t stand a chance.”

“I said, step away from the door!” I repeated. This time my voice boomed, filled with the energy that was roaring inside me.

Joan looked at me then (I mean, really looked at me) and as if she saw something Archer couldn’t, she began to move away from the door.

“Get back here! I can’t hold it on my own!” Archer gasped, his face becoming red and flustered.

“Listen to her,” Joan said, gesturing at me. “I believe she knows what she’s talking about.”

“I need a little more than belief right now,” Archer insisted, still not moving.

He was beginning to get on my last nerve. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply again. Wind, come to me.
