I nodded. “Yeah, but since when is that person you?”

He coughed. “Since that person stopped being you.”

Again he had a point. “You have a point.” Which was scary, seeing as Monroe rarely had a valid point, let alone two back to back ones. “So now what do I do? I have no leads and Howdy Doody is regularly fucking me in a single bed. If I go home, he’ll probably go home, to his home. Then I’m literally back to where I started from.”

“No,” he said. “You had an adventure. You know more about yourself than when you began. You rekindled a long dead flame. You’re happy again. Maybe it’ll stick this time.”

“Or I could come back worse than when I started, having lost the thing I’d been searching for, then found, then lost again.”

“Big Sur is only a few hours away,” he said. “Bing is geographically challenged; he’s not dead. And who’s to say he won’t leave Big Sur and come home with you? Have you thought to ask him?”
