In any case, she quickly spotted us as we were spotting her. “Seize them!” she bellowed, bony finger aimed our way.

“I think she missed us,” I moaned, extricating myself from the cart.

“Maybe she was lonely,” said Dara, now standing by my side.

“Or loony,” I amended with.

Lola and Ricky appeared on my other side, until we four were staring down at her and her advancing minions, the islanders from the pier behind them, and the islanders that had been following us a mere hundred yards or so away. In other words, trapped would’ve been putting it mildly.

“Now what do we do?” asked Dara, tugging my sleeve.

I looked all around, angry humans and menacing zombies on all sides. And still I managed a grin. “Do?” I said, atoms colliding inside of me, mashing and smashing together. “Why, the grand finale, of course.”

Lola rubbed her hands together. Or at least tried to. “Show time!”

Dara’s smile was brighter than the sun overhead. “Finally!”
