Chapter 10

Babe wanted to smack him. “Does she need a diaper change?”

“Figure that out for yourself.” The man stalked out, taking the bassinette with him.

As soon as she felt it was safe, Babe picked up Marianne and began crooning to her. The little girl did need her diaper changed. Babe leaned down and kissed Cilla’s soft, downy hair. “I’ll be right back, munchkin.”

She hurried to clean Marianne and replace her diaper, then rocked her gently in the crook of her left arm while she stroked Cilla’s back with her free hand. Soon both babies calmed down enough for her to be able to return Marianne to her crib.

Babe stared from one baby to the other. She was glad the two little girls were together again, but dear God, she wasn’t sure for how long that would be.
