Chapter 19

“I didn’t take it at face value,” he snapped, his annoyance obvious, but that was too bad. He hadn’t spent the past six and a half years on the run. “I did my research, Jen.” It looked like he was going to say something else, but he didn’t.

“Gunther?”

He scrubbed a hand over his face. “This job was so perfect. I was certain if I just did a lot of research, kept my head down, and worked hard they wouldn’t realize the design wasn’t mine.”

“What design? What are you talking about?”

“I…I told them Scottie’s diagram was mine. It was detailed enough that I was able to put it together.”

“Is that what you did with Scottie’s doodle?” Babe was so furious she wanted to smack him, and she would have if they hadn’t been in a public place.

“It’s not a doodle. It’s…it’s something that could radically change…when I say the future of mankind, I’m not being fanciful.”
