“Okay, thanks.” It wasn’t likely The Boss would tell her why Winchester needed to interrupt his vacation, but he would tell me what was up. “Go on home.”

“Yes, sir.”

I entered my office, swapped the gas company windbreaker and trousers for my suit, and glanced around to make sure everything was as it should be. In the outer office, Ms. Parker had shut down her computer and was gathering her purse and spring coat. Granger, her partner, was leaning against the door, waiting for her. There was an air of excitement about them.

Granger cleared his throat, and I stared at him. Something was definitely up.

“What is it?”

“Ariane saw her doctor this morning. She’s been feeling a little under the weather, and…well…”

“Don’t tell me she’s expecting again.”

He flushed but grinned, his pride obvious.

I shook my head and turned to my secretary. “You’re not pregnant too, are you?”

“No. Not at this time,” she clarified.
