Chapter 73

Perry strode over to where I was standing. “I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who gets on your wrong side.” He looked as pissed off as I felt. “Thanks so much for interrupting my evening, Vincent.”

“You could have delegated.” The Boss was a big believer in that, which was why he’d insisted Matheson take over so many of the details in running Interior Affairs while I did…other things.

Perry scowled at me. “I took the call because as the Director of Security, that’s my responsibility.” He turned to wave his men out of the van and the tow truck. Not that it was necessary. They’d already spilled out and were competently dealing with the three men the kid and I had taken down.

“No, you took it because you hoped it would be a situation where I’d look bad.”

He ground his teeth. He noticed the kid, and they exchanged glares. I rested my hand on my son’s shoulder. That was my boy.

“Why’d you bring Dr. Paget?”

“Do you object because she’s a woman?”
