Chapter 89

He leaned over his son and kissed me. “In a heartbeat.”

For a second I couldn’t catch my breath as that feeling swept over me again. Finally, I managed to say, “That makes me happy, Mark.”

“Uh…”

Clearly, he expected more. I laughed, but softly so I wouldn’t wake the boy. “Yes, I’d marry you again. In a heartbeat.”

SUNLIGHT JUST PEEKING through the curtains fell across my eyes, waking me. I’d wound up sleeping surprisingly well, no doubt because Mark was beside me. Our hands had remained clasped over his son’s sleeping form.

I turned my head and took a moment to observe the man who had come to mean so much to me and the boy who slept between us.

Our presence must have reassured the boy, because just then he was sound asleep, looking positively angelic. I wouldn’t say as much to my husband, however. He’d be highly insulted that any child of his would be considered to look adorable.
