Chapter 96

Quinn put down the fork he was using to turn the bacon and took a step toward the doorway.

I caught his arm, stopping him.

“Shouldn’t we go after him?”

“Give him a minute.”

“Care to tell me what that was about?”

“He’s got something he doesn’t want to tell me.”

He blew out a breath. “I understood that much. What I don’t understand is why he felt it was necessary to announce that fact.” He held up a hand. “And don’t you say it beats hell out of you.”

“Well, it does.”

“No, it doesn’t. Spill the beans.”

“Quinn! You’ve been hanging with me too much.”

“Of course your turn of phrase is bound to rub off on me. I am married to you.” He turned his attention back to the bacon.

“This is true.” I came up behind him, slid my arms around his waist, and kissed the spot below his right ear.

“I hope you’re not trying to distract me.”

“Is it working?”

“Nooo…” The way he drew out the word led me to believe otherwise, but I pretended to believe him. I’d been going to tell him anyway.
