I leaned against him. “Can we get out of here?”

“Yeah.” He glanced at the other two men, who were fussing over the third baby. “Are we gonna run into anyone who’ll get nosy about what we’re doing with these kids?”

“No.” Trip looked contemplative. “Someone called a fire drill, and when the alarms went off, everyone left the building.”

“When was that?” I asked.

He looked at Deuce. “About an hour ago?”

“Yeah, that sounds right.”

I glanced at Mark. “William?” I mouthed.

Mark gave a brief nod. “Did anyone working here spot you?” he asked Deuce.

“I don’t think so, but Trip was already here.” Deuce scowled at his partner.

“They’re used to seeing me here.”

“What?”

“Sorry, boss. I wanted to keep you out of it.”

“As if.”
