I went to gaze down at my children. “I’m naming this little beauty Destiny,” I told Mark as he climbed into bed.

“Why?” he asked, sounding suspicious.

“I thought it was a pretty name.”

“Oh. Okay.”

“Don’t you think so?”

“Yeah, it’s fine. As long as you don’t name her brother Fate.”

I burst into laughter, then clapped a hand over my mouth to muffle the sound. “No, Mark. I have no intention of giving the poor baby such a name.”

“Good. So what do you plan to name him?”

“Alexander. It was Father’s middle name.”

“That’s a good name, babe.”

“Mother will like it, don’t you think?”
