Chapter 6

“I’ll just… I’ll lock up,” I said. I grabbed my coat from the chair nearby, fumbling for my gloves. They were forecasting another fall of snow.

Duncan nodded and smiled at me. His eyes were doing that sparkling thing again, though I hadn’t turned on the spotlights at any time tonight. “It’s great you’re helping your mum with the show.”

“Well. You are too.”

He shrugged. “Sure. But I’m not a big shot actor like you.”

I flushed. “Don’t take the piss.”

“I’m not.” He looked genuinely startled. “I saw you in the TV series.”

“You did?”

He grinned. “Too right I did. Me and a couple of guys on the rig got addicted to it. I was bloody annoyed when they wrote your character out.”

What could I say? So was I.

“And what are you working on in London now?”

There was a small, ugly silence.
