It took a while,but the van and the trailer were eventually both empty,up to and including the storage tanks in the trailer.Claire made some notes on her pad,and handed the clipboard to Josh.

“That’s an impressive total,my friend,”she said.“All I need is your signature,and I’ll credit your account.”

Jake took the clipboard,glanced at the pad,and signed it with a flourish.“Here you go,my dear.And just so you’ll be ready for them,Marty and Sam should be coming in late today or sometime tomorrow with more seed from the same place we were,along with what I hope are six drums of number two fuel oil.”

“For which you’ll want a finder’s fee,”she said.

“You bet I will.”

“Scrounging the thrift store for clothing and shoes was a stroke of genius,”she said.“Do you mind if I pass that information along to others?”

“Not at all,”Josh said.“Lord knows there’s enough work out there to keep us all busy for many months.”
