Chapter 26

Monday

JOSH PULLED ON a robe and stepped into a pair of flip-flops.Then he leaned on Jake as they walked to the den—a room Jake hadn’t really paid any attention to before. When Josh was seated on a sofa,he indicated the wall of shelves across the room.

“Go pick a record, put it on the turntable, and turn on the system.”

“You have actual long-playing records?”

“You bet I do.I have a huge collection of classical music and a receiver that was built long before computers came into use.”

“All classical?”

“Yeah.I don’t much like what passes for modern music.”

“I can’t argue with that,”Jake said.“What are you in the mood for?”

“Bach or Mozart.Your call.”

Jake walked over to the shelves and looked at them.“What’s that on the top shelf?”

“My newest and totally useless receiver and tuner, both of them full of chips.”

“Yeah, and I see you’ve moved your collection of CDs to the two top shelves.”
