Chapter 5

“Oh, thank God.” Damien sounds as out of breath as he does. “You okay now?”

“What happened?”

“You, you almost lost it. You don’t remember what we were talking about?”

“I guess…I do.” He goes quiet for a moment.

“What’s his name?”

Damien takes a hand towel and dabs Patrick’s sweat-soaked face.

“What’re you going to do about it? No, Patrick, I’m not telling you his name.”

“He can make me remember.”

“Or worse, he can cause you to block your memories even further.”

Patrick looks down at his hands. His wrists feel sore. “I don’t know,” he says finally.

“You were strong, Patrick. You confronted him. It didn’t break you.”

Patrick stares at Damien. He is so confused.

“It didn’t? Then why am I here?”

“Something much worse happened to your family and I guess, you just couldn’t take it anymore. Your mind snapped and you sought refuge in other places. It happened no more than six months ago.”
