Chapter 10

Nick continued. “Like I said, I live about half an hour out of Milwaukee. I imagine you live in the city or close to.”

“Uh, yeah.”

“So, any time you want to open your Christmas gifts, whether it’s in January or July, you can at my house.”

Brad shook his head. “You don’t understand. If I’m seen with someone like you, then people will talk, and…”

Nick pushed down the hurt caused by the implication that he looked or acted gay and thus Brad would be outed. “No, no you won’t. Look.” Nick picked his shorts up from the floor and fished out his cell. Opening his photos app, he swiped through the pages of thumbnail images. He tapped on one and the picture filled the screen. “See that lake?” He turned the phone for Brad to see.

Brad nodded.

Nick tapped to the next picture. “See those woods?”

Again Brad indicated he did.

A third tap and Nick turned the phone back to Brad once again. “See that cabin?”

“Yeah, so?”
