“Shit, not that kind of proposition. Sorry. I worded that wrong.”

“He has a habit of doing that,” Maverick said, shooting Dirk a sour look. “What he was trying to say is, he has a job offer for you, so to speak. And it has nothing to do with sex so you can relax.”

“Why should I believe you? Either of you?” the kid asked, disbelief in his voice and expression.

“If I was you, I probably wouldn’t. On the other hand what have you got to lose by just listening?” Dirk told him. “We can go over there,” he pointed to a bench by the marble railing dividing the park in two. “There’s enough light so that if we try anything, someone will see it happening.”

The kid chewed the corner of his lip, finally nodding. “But I sit on the end.”

“Told you he was smart,” Dirk winked at Maverick as the trio headed to the bench.

The kid and Maverick sat while Dirk put one foot on the bench, looking down at the kid. “I’m Dirk, that’s Maverick,” he said.
