Chapter 18

“That doesn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy,” Jesse said as he watched.

“Sorry,” Dirk replied. “Luckily your average B&E person won’t have one of the detectors. They’re not exactly cheap.”

“How do we bypass the security key pad?” Maverick asked.

“This little toy.” Dirk picked it up to show everyone. “It essentially jams the signal from the box by preventing a wireless keypad from calling the cops over its normal cell network. Instead it sends a command for the keypad to latch onto a rogue cell phone network. If the pad runs off a landline, you need to disable the phone line before entering the building. In the event that it has a cellular backup, use the jammer, too. As a matter of fact, it’s always a good idea to use it every time, just in case.”

“That’s probably more likely to be usable at a home than a business,” Maverick commented. “Businesses have the money to pour into the most sophisticated systems available.”
