Galvez started to laugh. “Since I thought he was just a bratty straight boy, I’ve never given it a second thought. Good on a job, yeah. And I wished he’d stop with the whole ‘I don’t trust him’ thing. But that’s it.”

The buzzer sounded at that moment. As Dirk went to make certain it was Tripp and Fey, he said, “For now this discussion is on hold.”

Galvez nodded. “At least I know what’s going on, which helps.”

“By the way,” Maverick said while they waited for Fey and Tripp to come upstairs, “A four year age difference isn’t all that much. Dirk is six years older than me, and Jesse’s over ten years older than Fey.”

“Yeah, well…” Galvez’s expression was pensive. Even more so when Dirk opened the apartment door to let Fey and Tripp in. He seemed to be seeing Tripp in a different light. Then Tripp looked at him, almost smiling, and Galvez quickly turned his attention to Dirk, saying, “Now that we’re all here, what’s the job?”
