When Terry and Kel Coleman run from their abusive father, they end up in Denver. The day they arrive, they meet three street kids named Rudy, Snap, and Josie. The brothers move into the trio's squat where Rudy and the others teach Terry and Kel the ins-and-outs of survival on the streets. While that happens, Terry and Rudy are drawn to each other and begin a tentative relationship.<br><br>Then Kel is almost kidnapped by a man sent by his father to bring him home. Forced to leave their squat to keep Kel safe, they turn to a local pastor for help. Thanks to the pastor, the five young people may find hope for their future -- if they can survive the present. In the process, can the budding relationship between Terry and Rudy survive, or will it be torn apart by the life they're forced to live?

Surviving

“One other thing before I leave,” Mr. Wilson said when they were finished. “I’m going to set up an account for you at the hardware store a few blocks from here. That way you can buy what you need without having to have cash in hand to pay for it.” He wrote down the address on the back of one of his business cards. “Rudy, I’m going to give them your name and Terry’s as the ones who have authorization to use it. Nothing against you two,” he added, smiling at Snap and Josie. “That just keeps things simpler.”


“No problem,” Snap replied. “You can put my name on the account at the fancy restaurant we passed on the way here.” When Mr. Wilson arched an eyebrow, Snap grinned. “Or not.”


Mr. Wilson chuckled. “Definitely or not, but that did remind me.” He took out his wallet and handed Rudy some cash. “Since I take it you’re the one nominally in charge, this should get you started as far as buying food and the dishes and what have you that you’ll need.”
