“Call Terrance and ask him to come over.”

Darren didn’t reach Terrance the first time he tried him, so he left a message and Terrance called back later that evening while we were having dinner. Darren left the condo to take the call so I wasn’t able to hear what he said to Terrance, but when he returned a few minutes later, he told me Terrance was going to stop by the following evening around eight.

“What did you tell him?” I asked.

“I told him you—wewant to talk to him.”

“Does he know why he’s coming here?”

“Yes. I wasn’t going to ambush him, Mark. By the way, he denied robbing you.”

“I figured he would.”

“Then why do you even want to see him?”

“Because I need to look him in the eye when I ask him myself. Even if he denies it, I want to seehim deny it.”

“And then what?”

“I don’t know.”

“You realize my friendship with him is finished now, right?”

“Is your friendship with him more important than your relationship with me?”
