Chapter 43

* * * *

A short dark skinned black man was standing behind the counter flipping through some papers when I walked into the garage. He looked up at me and asked, “Can I help you?”

“I’m looking for Terrance Moore,” I said. “I was told he works here.”

“He does. I’m his cousin. Who are you?”

“I’m…a friend of a friend. Is he here? I’d just like to talk to him for a minute.”

The man eyed me suspiciously. “Does Terrance owe you money or something?”

“No. It’s nothing like that.” I was about to try and explain the reason for my visit when Terrance himself walked through the back door that led from the front lobby to the garage bays. He looked at me and froze. Our eyes met and he cursed.

“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked.

“Do you know him?” his cousin asked.

Terrance ignored his cousin and told me to get the fuck out.

“I just came to apologize to you,” I told him. “I’m sorry, okay? I’m sorry about everything that happened. That’s all I came to say.”
