Chapter 8

Sean nodded nervously. “I am. May I see him, please?” He was scared hearing his own pleading tone. Don’t let the worst thing have happened to Jonah. But before he knew it, Jonah’s mother charged forward and beat at Sean’s chest.

“Where is Jonah?” she screamed. “Where did you take my boy? Huh? Huh? Bring him back here, or I’ll call the cops!”

Amidst the stinging pain on his chest, Sean processed the new information Mrs. Wilder had unwittingly told him. Jonah was missing? What garbage was she talking? Sean saw himself how that twat Ryan dragged Jonah inside the house. But his mother thought he was missing. Or did Jonah’s own mother have bad intentions toward him? Surely that was impossible.

“Please—ouch! I know nothing about where Jonah is now. What’s going on?”

“That boy, Ryan, he said he’d not seen Jonah anywhere,” said Jonah’s mother in between her sobs.

Sean was about to ask something when he heard another voice—a man’s.

“Who is it, dear?”
