Chapter 10

He was surprised by his own thoughts. Who was he to think such things? He had just lost his boyfriend of three years yet now he gladly accepted another man’s comfort? He gave a sudden jerk back.

Nate gaped, startled. “What’s wrong?”

“I’m sorry. I can’t do this.”

That surprised look was now mixed with hurt. Lucian felt like reaching out to Nate.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean…I was just…”

“You’re just lost and alone, but confused, too. Well, you should know you’re not alone. I’m here. I’ll listen anytime you want to talk more about it.”

Lucian stared at Nate, suddenly curious. Nate had been too…accepting. But Lucian felt comfortable with him. It was as if he’d known the man for a long time. Still, he needed to ask.

“It didn’t surprise you that I was with a man?”

Nate’s eyes flickered and he smiled a little. “No, it didn’t. When I first met you, I thought how beautiful you are and it’d be too bad if you had a girlfriend. But honestly, I’m sorry you lost your boyfriend.”
