“Have a nice stay.”

“I will.” He couldn’t wait to dive into the Internet to find any information that might be there.

Maybe he wasn’t meant to be with the Salvatore guy. He didn’t even have to wait to find out; Lucian was gone already. After more than two hours driving around the town checking the places he guessed Lucian would usually frequent, and having swept his eyes over the cars parked on the street, Nate had to admit defeat. Lucian had left town without saying a word to him.

Suddenly his phone rang. The loud tune made him jump. It was Helen.

He pulled his car over before he picked up his cell. “Hello?”

“Nate? We need to talk.”

Helen was still at the office. Nate didn’t ask anything further. He simply turned around and drove his car back to the station.

“I can’t find him anywhere,” Nate said at the doorway of Helen’s office. His own hollow voice made him cringe but he didn’t care.
