Chapter 13

“Clearly, you’re not,” mocked Sullivan, repeating Joshua’s words. “Listen, there’s another house that looks prime. You in?”

“I dunno. I think I’m done. Plus I thought that was one time. Just enough for you to get some money so you go to New York.” Joshua looked away. He didn’t want to look at Sullivan. He sensed Sullivan’s eyes were upon him. “I want to finish high school, get my diploma. Get outta here.”

“What the fuck? When’d you turn chicken shit?” Sullivan’s voice barely a whisper but hurtful.

Damn he’s smiling at me. Does he know what he does to me when he does that?

“Gotta go,” he said. Joshua swung the locker open while Sullivan grabbed the top, pushing it back to Joshua’s shoulder.

“You go then but we’re not done. You hear me?” Sullivan hissed.
