Chapter 15

Silence.

Eli continued. “You see paint on the wall, I see their expression of humanity and I see why He created them. Maybe you only see their penchant for destruction: how easy it is for them to go about to put the earth to fire but for at least a millennia you all do nothing about it. At least some of my kind attempted to help Man. Since I was released, I’ve seen them make leaps and bounds. Math, science. They’re closer to answering a lot of questions that philosophers have debated for centuries.”

“Yes, humans are a marvelous lot and you humor us even though you know that we have seen humans change and evolve too. They are closer to understanding the physical world around them, the universe—this one—that was created for them but their acquired knowledge is still very limited.” As the watcher spoke, the breeze shifted. Eli’s ears, sensitive as they were, heard Joshua walking in the cemetery, heading his direction.

“But again why this one, Eli?”
