“Exactly,” I agreed. “I have a feeling once we know the extent of his present capabilities, or as they get stronger, things could become a lot faster and safer for us.”

Liddy grinned. “But not for the paintings.”

“So when do we want to tell him about the real side of our business?” Duff asked. “Before you say you’ll do it, Philip, I think it should be a joint effort.”

“Definitely,” I replied.

Rob frowned. “What do we do if he balks and makes it clear he wants no part of this?”

“I wipe his memory of the whole conversation and he remains just an employee who runs the gallery in the evening.”

“Another question, a bit off the subject,” Liddy piped up. “Is he going to be staying with you, Philip?”

“No. I have the feeling he’ll want his own place sooner than later. The sofa may be reasonably comfortable but it’s not a bed.”

“He could share yours,” she replied, giving me a wide-eyed, innocent look.
