Chapter 103

Those who said it became easier with time lied.

His sister and brother-in-law were never far from his mind anyway, but the inevitability of their deaths’ anniversary each year knocked him on his ass every time. He accelerated the BMW, smiling at the ritual awaiting him at home as it played itself out in his mind. Over the years he and the Walker brothers had formed a tradition on the day their parents were ripped from their lives. Each year they would spend the day, or at least evening, together. Only them, no distractions, and no one else. They would do something small to commemorate the day, but mostly he’d end up telling them stories about their parents when they were younger, anecdotes of their mother while they were growing up and just keep their memory alive by making sure the boys never forgot the loving people who had brought them into the world.
