Chapter 23

When Corky asked Jax to go home with him a second time, Jax declined the offer and said, “It’s not that I won’t. It’s just that I can’t.”

“You’re saving my self-esteem, aren’t you?”

“I have something important to do tonight and can’t blow it off, although I’d like to.”

Corky sucked up the rejection and admitted, “Use my phone number if you ever want to. I’d drop my world for you.”

It was flattering, but Jax believed that he wouldn’t take Corky up on the offer. After looking at the time on his cellphone, he said, “This has been fun, but I have to go.”

“Me, too,” Corky said and kissed Jax again. Thereafter, he gave his farewell to his new friend.

Jax walked out of the bar, to his car, and then headed home.
