Chapter 10

After thanking me and tucking cash into his jeans pocket, he said, “I’m glad it went well.” He crossed his arms on his chest. “You don’t remember me, do you?”

I shrugged and grabbed a cloth to wipe down the bar top. “No, I don’t. Should I?”

He sighed and scratched his chin. “This is awkward. Umm…you went to Harmony High, right?”

That stopped me cold. “Yeah. Why?”

“Before I tell you who I am, I just want to say I’m so sorry for who I was back then, and what I did to you. My name is—”

And then it hit me. I’d buried the memory of him so deep that it was a shock to see him before me, in the flesh, after all these years.

“It can’t be. Stellan? You…I…” My voice faded away as I went into shock. I stumbled back against the shelves of alcohol behind me and one of the bottles fell on the floor, shattering instantly.

“Shit! Evan, are you okay?” He moved to come around the bar.

I held up a hand, which visibly shook. “I need you to leave. Right now.”
