I took a minute to formulate my response while I drank my coffee and stared at the view before us. “You know I have—or have had—issues with commitment and trust. I didn’t think I’d ever become seriously involved with anyone, not with my track record. I couldn’t trust my feelings to be real. But with you…” I looked at him. “Even with the ups and downs in our time together, it’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me, if I were to be honest. And…if this is love, then, yes, I love you.”
Chuck closed his eyes briefly, then opened them. “God, that’s great to hear.” He held his coffee cup in one hand while he took hold of my fingers with the other. “My feelings haven’t changed, Evie. I love you, with all my heart and soul.”
I lifted his hand and kissed the knuckles. “So we’re okay, then?”
“Hell, yeah! I’m just wondering when you plan on letting me fuck you finally.”
