Chapter 28

For the Schrodingers to lend their boat to Dick, well, something sounded fishy to him. And he had a hunch he knew what it was: the cat. It was fairly well known who hated the cat in that family: the guy with the boat key. Had Dick bribed or blackmailed Mr. Schrodinger to borrow the boat? So he could avoid his own father’s wrath for having destroyed the old faithful (accent on “old”) window air conditioner? Would Dick do that? Oh hell yes. Peter laughed. He was going to enjoy this, and he’d have his lover by his side. Maybe if it was pretty enough, he’d propose out there somewhere. Who knows?

Dick said, as they walked onto the neighbor’s pier, “Mr. S. said it’s a 3100 Coronet or something, whatever that is. He said it’s insured for five hundred thousand dollars but if I fucked it up he’d kill me and then collect the money too. He said he took out an insurance policy on me! Can you imagine? What does he think I am, stupid?”
