Nick half-grinned, his crooked teeth briefly showing. “To be fair, if it wasn’t for Maxi, I wouldn’t. Nobody else has called me Demi since I was about eight.”

“You’re here with her?”

“Technically,” Nick shrugged. “And you asked anyway, so I escaped. Got a couple of things to say to you.”

“Like?” Tab folded his arms. It was hard being angry with Nick, because…because he was a crappy liar. Tab knew that. Nick wore his mind on his face, and thinking back, Tab suspected he knew when Nick had realised, that session in the bagroom when he’d told Nick about Demi and Nick had gone all quiet for a minute.
