Chapter 6

“But can’t we stay a bit longer?” One of the volunteers had been out to the truck and had dumped a fresh load of clothing in a heap on Leslie’s worktable.

“No. We’ve got to get going.”

“But all this clothing. It still needs—”

“To be sorted. But that’s for the afternoon shift. We’ll come again. I’ve already heard from Maisie what a fast worker you are. She’s tickled to have you. Not that I get any credit. Now go.” She jabbed him in the ribs.

“Yes, Your Highness.” And then he winked at her. “Do you act this way around my brother? If so, I’ve never seen it.”

“Of course I do. How do you think he gets anything done?”

“The little woman behind the man, eh?”

“Quit your jabbering and hurry up.” She was already putting on her hat and heading for the door. “And don’t forget your coat. There’s a bit of a chill about.”
